Seas of Love: Songs of the 60s and 70s

Crows Feet is in the throes of putting together a new show, at the moment called Seas of Love: Songs of the 60s and 70s. We have chosen songs from the great female vocalists of these two decades, and are having great fun choreographing dances to them - Helen Reddy, Carole King, Janis Joplin, Dusty Springfield, to name but a few.

In this show all four Crows groups are working on the same theme, which help give an overall coherence to the programme.

We are going back to one of our favourite venues - Expressions Arts and Entertainment Centre- which has a gorgeous stage that fits all our big group, and lovely backstage facilities. Easy for our audiences too- just hop on the train in Wellington and you arrive right opposite the theatre.

Dates of the show are: August 31st- September 2nd.

After having to cancel twice because of the earthquake, some of the Crows are going to Christchurch to perform in the Body Festival with Christchurch's Rebound Dance Company, a similar group to ours. We will be taking Quintet, Leaving Home and excerpts from our latest show.

I will keep everyone updated on our progress: We have 15 dances in the show, and so far a third of them have been choreographed. Lots more work ahead of us.

Hi Anonymous again. Thanks for the advice—much appreciated. And hey, if you can find a local rest home that will accommodate our hundreds of fans, with a stage and dressing rooms for 34 dancers, and a nice wooden floor, and all for free—please do tell us!

I saw this show at

I saw this show at Expressions on Sunday 2pm and sad to say our group was so disappointed we left during the interval

There is no denying the enthusiasm and committment of the dancers, and the choice of music, however the degrees of abilty detracted from the show and for $25 a ticket  I was very underwhelmed.  I believe rather than general public events, the Crows at current level of professionalism would be better either charging $10 a head for shows or targeting audiences like retirement groups etc.

Aside from two or three dancers who clearly had professional training, the rest of the troupe danced in a manner that most women do in the privacy of their own homes with the record player turned up.  To form a group and dance is a wonderful thing, to assume others will pay to see what is a essentially a personal pleasure at amateur level, is not the same thing.

Quite a few of the Crows were

Quite a few of the Crows were dancing these dances for real, first time around. So this is a very amusing nostalgia trip as well as vigorous self expression for us.

Its been great developing and

Its been great developing and learning the pieces that make up Seas of Love. There is a huge variety in the mucis of the 60's and 70's and people will see this in the show - go Crows!!! Tania
